Bonjour,
Je partage avec vous un article qui a été publié aujourd'hui même. bonne lecture
The mindset of trading success
Traders in my opinion, fall into two distinct categories. Those that understand the importance of rading mindset and those that do not.
I hear on a regular basis from traders who are just starting and traders that are not doing so well that “mindset is not important”. This same group is often heard to say “I do not need to be taught how to think”! On the other side of the coin, most successful traders would disagree entirely with these pinions. You just have to look at business, sport and trading to find that those that do well usually have a coach or mentor or even a team of advisers. These mentors will often concentrate as much on mindset as other skill sets required for their particular situation. Decision making under pressure is a difficult task, no matter what your profession!
When the light bulb is finally switched on and traders accept that mindset is crucial for their success, they are invariably at the stage where they have learnt the fundamentals of trading already with some solid experience under their belt. They are now learning to perform at a higher level.
My 5 year old son does not need a lecture on mindset prior to him leaving for his weekly football game. He still needs to learn the basic skills and any mindset coaching from Dad will unlikely produce the winning goal for this junior team. But a couple of decades later, a professional soccer player will be highly attuned to the importance of mindset.
Sticking with football for a moment, the 2014 World Cup has just kicked off. The English team have a somewhat below par history when it comes to knock out tournaments and particularly penalty shoot-outs. England captain, Steven Gerrard, has the following statement when it comes to difference of a penalty shoot-out in a regular league game compared to one in a competition such as the World Cup...
"There is a lot of pressure. You have an awful lot more time to think about your penalty and what is at stake is a lot bigger and it is a pressure situation. A penalty shoot-out is a more pressurised situation than any one penalty in a league game." Steven Gerrard, England Football Captain
Football fans know that these elite players will score more often than not from the penalty spot in an everyday league game, so what happens to them in these major events? Those that doubt the power of mindset must believe that the players have lost their basic kicking skills. In my opinion however, you do not just lose your kicking ability so quickly. If you add up the pressure and the stakes, this
mindset of a successful trader any more than the more obviously negative emotions.
A good trader’s mindset has to be consistent, calm, unruffled, harmonious, and disciplined. The basic skill set of finding and placing good trades is secondary once it has been learnt.
Jack Schwager, renown author of Market Wizards, has had the privilege of meeting and interviewing many of the greatest traders of our time. What does he say they have in common?
The Market Wizards never talked about indicators or techniques, but rather about such things as discipline, emotional control, patience, and mental attitude. The message is clear: the key to winning in the markets is internal, not external.” Jack Schwager, Author of Market Wizards
Which category of trader are you?
